Rebound 2023 Gravel Ride

As part of the world-wide Shimano gravel event, Cardiff Cycle Workshop are hosting a  162km/100 mile self-supported ride.

The plan is to meet from 05:50, ready to roll out from the workshop at 06:00. The route will be taking in as many gravelly tracks and trails as possible, heading in a north-easterly direction to scale infamous hill climb “The British”, before circling back via lots more gravelly trails, some of which will be steep, rocky and loose.  There are  planned food stops at Talybont Stores, Talybont on Usk and at Bike Park Wales, before meeting up back at the workshop, for some food and celebratory drinks. View the route on our Strava club here. https://www.strava.com/clubs/CardiffCycleWorkshop

Hot food and  drinks (veggie curry / tea / coffee) will be provided at the finish , once Nic and Jon make it back! Feel free to bring a beer or similar if you want.

    1. Hopefully not Ant. We’re not insured!

In all seriousness, there is a bail out option at Ebbw Vale – train or cycle paths back to Cardiff. Also the same back from Merthyr.

  1. Hi, has anyone got a quiet gpx route from Chepstow to the bike shop?
Would free up some valuable time for this week.
    Regards,
    Rob.

      1. Thx Jon,
I’ve managed to import a route from Komoot that is close to yours but shorter. I’m giving myself 5 hrs from Swindon but if things look tight near Newport I’ll head north to pick up the advertised rebound route I guess near Cwmcarn and hook up with the graveloton on route. The biggest decision is going to see how time is going during the ride so I don’t miss the last return train to Swindon/London which leaves Cdf at 1800. The next train is 2000 but terminates at Bristol. Options will be at least another 75km on top of an estimated 290 or calling for a wife taxi, which won’t amuse her. 🤞

“We visited today and picked a bike for my 6 year-old. He got to try it out and you fixed the brakes as they were a bit squeaky! Very covid safe! Excellent bike and my boy loves it. Great it has a 3-month warranty too!”

“Came away a lot more confident with attempting to build a wheel. The course was run in a relaxed manner and no question was too much for Jon to answer. Look forward to my next course.”

I’d just like to say a massive ‘Thank You’ to the boys and girls at Cardiff Cycle workshop. They’ve done absolute wonders for my bike over the years! It’s was an old heavy Peugeot which I bought from new in about 1990. Although I used it regularly, it was getting too heavy for me, so the team changed the wheels for ones that were much lighter; put some super duper tyres on them, and on top of that, replaced the old hard saddle for a brand new very comfortable one. I make sure that I get my bike serviced regularly with them too. Such a friendly bunch too-always time for a chat. There is nothing they don’t know about bikes. Highly recommended!

“Sustainability has worked with CTW successfully for a number of years, with sessions every month on Campus. They provide bike servicing for staff, students and the local community as part of our free Repair Café events. It’s a service to all to promote sustainable cycle travelling to Campus and the benefits of repair. They are so knowledgeable and as well as fixing on site they provide great friendly honest advice.”
