At around 6 I started fixing punctures for friends in our south London cul-de-sac. This was often in return for a go on their bike as I didn’t have my own at that point. I always had a knack for taking things apart and (more importantly) popping them back together to solve this or that problem. Subsequently, I’m self-taught and have long worked at teaching bicycle mechanics to others.
45 years later I supervise our lovely volunteers, helping with tips, tricks and general methodology in our bid to produce top-notch bicycles from donated machines. I specialise in the older bicycles and also the unusual – Tandems, Recumbents, Tricycles, Cargobikes and so forth. I still enjoy repairing each and every bicycle and count myself very lucky to be doing something, as a job, that I love.
